From 1 July 2026, the Netherlands will introduce a new kilometre-based road tax for trucks.
The tax is part of the Dutch authorities’ efforts to finance and maintain the road network and will have an impact on road transport through the country.
The scheme applies to both Dutch and foreign trucks and covers motorways as well as selected major provincial and municipal roads in the Netherlands.
The new road tax means that the transportation costs of driving in the Netherlands are changing. Against this background, from 1 July 2026, BHS will start collecting road tax for the Netherlands, where applicable. The purpose is to handle the new external cost
introduced through the Dutch road tax system.
If you have any questions about what the new road tax means for your transports to, from or through the Netherlands, you are always welcome to contact your regular contact person at BHS.
